Update

Our proposal for a Free School - Al-Ashraf Secondary School for Boys, has successfully reached the interview stage.

This means that the initial application put together by the Steering Group has been considered strong enough by the Department for Education for it to progress to the next stage.

We have now been asked to attend an interview with the Free Schools Organisation in London on the 22nd May 2012,
for them to thoroughly go through the application and also question the Steering Group in a much more detailed manner on their proposition.

Furthermore, one of the key aspects that we must continue to show, is that we have evidence of demand for the school from parents, i.e.
that we have sufficient parents who have indicated that they would be willing to send their child to this school from September 2013 and in subsequent years.

To ensure we can do this effectively, we are asking parents of children who are currently in Years 4, 5 and 6 to indicate to us that they would consider sending their son to our school, if they have already not done so.

You can do this by contacting us in the following way:

Email us at freeboysschool@al-ashraf.org.uk
Phone us on 01452-503533 between 9am and 3pm.
Or fill out the online form at boys.al-ashraf.org.uk

If you or someone you know who has children in Year 4, 5 or 6 and has yet to sign up to this new and progressive school then please do so as soon as possible.

Online Form

In response to parental demand, a team of professionals have formed a steering group to prepare and submit an
application to open an Islamic non-selective secondary school for boys, under the government free schools’ initiative.

If our application is successful Al-Ashraf Secondary School for Boys will open in 2013 with a year 7 and 8.
The school will be run with an Islamic ethos but will welcome applications from pupils of all faiths and those of none.

Free Schools designated as having a religious character will have to balance the needs of (a) children of the particular
faith and (b) children of other faiths or none; and when oversubscribed, will have to limit those admitted on the basis of
faith to 50% of their yearly intake. Free Schools are all-ability state-funded schools set up in response to what local people
say they want and need in order to improve education for children in their community.

Al-Ashraf Secondary School for Boys will have the following features:
